7. Army Of Shadows (1969)

Another little seen classic, and certainly one of the most captivating war movies ever made. Army of Shadows, the twelfth film from master director Jean-Pierre Melville, takes a "realistic" approach to documenting the tragedies of war. This is war cinema at its most candid but also its most restrained; cold and eerie, it's unlike anything else.
