20 Worst Moments In Wizarding World Movies
3. Leta's Backstory - Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes Of Grindelwald
This is one of the weirdest and most tone-deaf scenes in any recent blockbuster... and not in a good way. At all.
In this sequence, Leta Lestrange (Zoe Kravitz) explains what really happened to her brother, therefore proving that Creedence Barebone is not a Lestrange (the other characters think he is prior to this). We get this in the form of a nauseating flashback which grinds the film to a halt for ten minutes and doesn't even relate to the rest of the film (aside from setting up that ridiculous twist).
It's revealed that, during a sea journey, a young Leta was fed up of her brother's crying and randomly put him down in another cot before picking up another baby. This baby (who would grow up to be Creedence) escaped with Leta, while her real brother was in another lifeboat and eventually falls into the sea and drowns.
This was dire writing all around. It's a thoroughly mean-spirited sequence which felt wildly out of place in what was meant to be a family film and it also seems highly illogical that Leta would swap the babies like this, even if she was very young at the time. Just dreadful.
