20 Worst Moments In Wizarding World Movies
18. The Norbert Subplot - Harry Potter And The Philosopher's Stone
On the page, this subplot was probably the most tedious part of an otherwise brilliant children's book and it fared even worse in the film, since it felt so pointless.
It arguably should've been cut. It didn't add anything and Norbert disappears after only one scene - his departure to Romania isn't even shown in the film.
This subplot is a great example of the bad editing that dogged all of the Harry Potter films. They did stuff in an awful lot of story and this meant that many things throughout the movies are rushed, such as this. It does play into the mystery of who's trying to steal the Philosopher's Stone, but it's a shame the film couldn't have found a more interesting storyline to fulfil this purpose.
In terms of individual scenes, this thoroughly dull narrative detour is probably the worst part of Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone, the dated but enjoyable first film in the franchise.
