Does Ryan Reynolds need to call it a day? Seriously, what does this guy have to do to win your respect? Why is the poor man incapable of starring in a movie that isn't either terrible or an embarrassing flop? R.I.P.D, then, is the latest movie to find itself on the thin ice that is Ryan Reynolds' career - and this time he's bringing Jeff Bridges with him! Okay, so R.I.P.D - based on the comic of the same name - wanted to be the next Men in Black. It didn't really pan out as such. That's to say, R.I.P.D. is the prime example of a blockbuster that you can see imploding under its own weight as you watch it: witness the disaster looming behind ever CGI-addled set-piece, and in the way that Reynolds and Bridges glare at one another throughout. The premise - dead cops solved crimes as ghosts, whilst seeing ghosts - doesn't translate to the big screen, and Jeff Bridges reprises his True Grit role verbatim, presumably under the influence of some hard drug.
