Rotten Tomatoes: 9% By now we should probably all be a little uncomfortable about taking shots at Adam Sandler: he's too much of an easy target and he has legitimately proven himself to be a more than capable actor in both comedic and dramatic roles. It's just a little hard to remember that when he's peddling garbage like this and Pixels. You can see why the premise was appealing: a cobbler (yes, they still exist) has an enchanted sewing machine (wait... what?!) that allows him to walk in the shoes of all of his clients. It's like What Women Want, except without any subtlety. The great tragedy of the film is that it could actually have worked despite the silliness: if it was French and delightful like Chocolat or Amelie then it would have been great. Even a Woody Allen version would have worked. Unfortunately, we instead got a film that uses the premise only to make gags about cross-dressing, out of body sexual assault gags and incestuous relationships with your mother. Which probably explains why it made a paltry £24,000 against a £10 million budget.
