11. The Book Of Love

Book Of Love Maisie Williams
Electric Entertainment

Given that Game Of Thrones is at the absolute muscular height of its success, every film and TV project starring the cast should be at the fore-front of fans' consciousness - particularly in the fallow period between seasons. The fact that Maisie Williams' The Book Of Love barely made a ripple says a lot about its quality, unfortunately.

Teamed with the usually excellent Jason Sudeikis, Williams is at the heart of this probably well-intentioned portrait of grief and self-identity. Unfortunately, the script is poor and stuffed with sugary sentiment that doesn't ring true and grand-standing self-help ideas that think they're far more profound than they are. Williams isn't entirely awful, but she's wrestling against a sickly tide, and Sudeikis is badly out of place, missing the point of his character's grief so badly that it's almost impossible to care about his journey to fulfil his dead wife's last wish.

Director Bill Purple has a long track record as a second unit director, and has some previous working on TV shows like New Girl and Speechless, but his graduation to a feature helmer leaves a lot to be desired.
