20 Worst Movies Of 2017 (So Far)
4. xXx: The Return Of Xander Cage
Thanks to the Fast & Furious franchise, the brand of Vin Diesel is a surprisingly powerful one at the minute, but it's hard to really see why. In truth, Fast & Furious movies are increasingly reliant on the other elements that swarm around (and distract from) Diesel, and when he's given space to lead alone, he's just not as compelling to audiences.
That's why his other big franchises - Riddick and xXx - have fared far worse, particularly in the US, where The Return Of Xander Cage made just $45m domestically.
This is of course the third addition to the gnarly xXx series, which invited the world to fall for an extreme sportsman version of James Bond, and which really isn't as cool as it sounds. The threequel brings back Diesel's Xander Cage, who obviously faked his own death and aims to appeal to the same audience who lap up Fast & Furious movies, but by really aiming for a gutter-bound version of the same thrills and not really caring to even copy James Bond as it once did.
Still, it made money worldwide, though, so who cares if it was awful? The fourth film is already, apparently, on its way.
