16. Miss Bala

Gina Rodriquez is a talented young actress with a notable filmography behind her already. Miss Bala tasked her with leading an action flick for the first time, and unfortunately it was a task which saw her fall short.

It’s not exactly fair to put it all on Rodriquez though. She’s easily the best thing in this.

Based on the 2011 Mexican film of the same name (meaning Miss Bullet in English), Miss Bala doesn’t offer much in terms of originality. Rodriquez is the only one whose acting offers more than one dimension, but with a bland plot and no one to bounce off, it’s all for nought.

Everything you expect to happen does, anything you don’t expect to doesn’t, and unless Rodriquez is on screen it all feels amateurish.

Action movies don’t need to be all that clever to be good, but they need to at least offer a sense of fun. Miss Bala doesn’t really offer anything.
