12. The Fanatic
John Travolta's frenetically intense performance is The Fanatic’s best asset but for the most part Fred Durst’s directorial debut is uninspired and soulless. When Travolta’s not on screen, there’s no energy or intrigue, nor any substantial narrative.
Every other performance is flat and for a plot about a crazed stalker, there’s almost zero twists or shocks. It tries to redeem this by throwing buckets of blood at the action sequences, but there’s nothing clever or entertaining about any of them.
While Travolta could carry a film on his own, he still needs a clever script to bring it out of him, and The Fanatic can’t help him. As it is, Travolta swims against the current, but can’t save this one.
At 88 minutes long, the best you can say is it doesn’t overstay its welcome.
