20 Worst Movies Of 2023

The bottom of the cinematic barrel in 2023.

2023 has mostly been a great year for movies, but we have to stress the word "mostly," because no year of cinema is without its bevy of absolute dreck.

Nobody sets out to make a terrible movie - well, almost nobody - and bad films come in many forms, from cynical cash-grabs to ambitious failures that just didn't turn out how the filmmakers intended.

The past 12 months have certainly been populated with their fair share of dud films from both camps, whether released on the big screen or tellingly relegated to streaming.

The Razzies will certainly have plenty to choose from in the coming months, then, from anticipated flop sequels to follow-ups that just about nobody was excited for.

If bad movies can be a riot to laugh along with up to a point, these films all took viewer patience to the absolute limit, and you needed a seriously strong stomach for schlock to see them all the way through to the end.

And so, as 2024 nears, we can only hope that the coming year takes things a little easier where cinematic lumps of coals are concerned...

20. Magic Mike's Last Dance

Steven Soderbergh turned in a rare dud this year with the third and allegedly final Magic Mike film, which rather than triple down on the bromantic vibes and celebratory flesh circus of its two predecessors, went in a mostly different, wildly unasked-for direction.

Soderbergh opted instead to focus Magic Mike's Last Dance on Mike's (Channing Tatum) relationship with a wealthy socialite (Salma Hayek Pinault) and, most bafflingly of all, their attempt to put on a stripper stage play.

Even if you can forgive how transparently this is basically an advert for the Magic Mike Live! stage show, there's a depressing lack of sex appeal throughout, and the absence of Mike's stripper pals - save for a pathetic cameo via Zoom - is sorely felt.

Worst of all, why on Earth did anyone think that a movie marketed on guys stripping needed to be narrated by a young girl? Bizarre doesn't even begin to describe it.
