20 Worst Performances In MCU Movies
7. Evangeline Lilly
Character: Hope van Dyne/The Wasp
Appeared In: Ant-Man
Evangeline Lilly's performance as Hope van Dyne, who is soon to suit up as The Wasp, was pretty unsatisfactory overall. She's cold, whiny and has zero chemistry with Scott Lang or her father.
When placed next to Paul Rudd's charming and delightful role as Ant-Man, she is like a thundercloud in the room dampening the atmosphere. Although she's let down by poor scripting (Hope is involved not only in a random-feeling romance but also in a tedious family drama subplot), Lilly's inability to have any fun is extremely distracting.
Ant-Man is one of the MCU's most underrated films and it's a lot of fun, but there were a couple of elements that seriously distracted and Hope was one of them. This character will be fine in the future if Lilly can just get into the spirit of the films and lighten up a bit.
That being said, Ant-Man and the Wasp will no doubt give her a better-written role and the trailer indicates she'll be having more fun, so hopefully (like with Martin Freeman, Don Cheadle and even Scarlett Johansson) this will just be a first film stumble.
