The brutal Troglodyte tribe have captured both Sheriff Franklin Hunt (Kurt Russell) and his deputy Nick (Evan Jonigkeit), and as Hunt looks on in horror from his cell, Nick is stripped, brutally scalped (is there any other way?), has the scalp chiseled into his mouth, his genitals are slashed to pieces with a hatchet, and his corpse is then ripped in two, his entrails falling all over the floor. Even people who haven't seen this gritty western are aware of the scene, which is surely the most gory and nauseating death scene from any movie in recent memory. The incredible gore effects combine with a surprisingly realistic depiction of unthinkable violence to make this unpleasant and really, really f***ed up.
