The Joker takes Grissom's place as the acting President of a huge criminal empire, but when one of the gangsters, Antoine, is reluctant to join him, The Joker insists they can avoid war and just go their separate ways. The Joker goes to seal it with a handshake, but of course, he's wearing an extremely potent joy-buzzer, strong enough that it actually causes smoke to emit from the man's body as he's quickly turned into a charred corpse. The Joker then cracks a couple of jokes ("He was getting hot under the collar", "Haven't you ever heard of the healing power of laughter?") and starts talking to Antoine's still-smoldering corpse. It's goofy as hell, but at least this scene benefits from also being really damn disturbing, so it pretty much works.
