2. Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse

Were there any justice in the world, Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse would have joined Avengers: Infinity War on the list of billion dollar movies released in 2018. But, perhaps because of past failings by Sony or the inability of some fans to separate the idea of animation and kids' films, it has pulled in a little over $300m.

That's not unimpressive, given a $90m budget, but Into The Spider-Verse deserves to be seen my millions upon millions more fans than it has been so far. It is a stunning artistic achievement with some of the most gorgeous visuals in any film ever and the closest relationship between the medium of comic books and its adaptation.

It's charming, funny, heart-felt and incredibly addictive, with great vocal performances, a perfectly constructed soundtrack and characters you will want to see again in other films. If that's not a successful launch-point for what could be a new universe for Sony, then your judgement is deeply impaired.
