13. Tron: Ares
Much as Tron fans desperately wanted Tron: Ares to be a success, nothing leading up to its release indicated that would be the case, sadly.
For one, the previous film Tron: Legacy underperformed commercially back in 2010, and Disney made little effort to grow the brand out in the 15 years since.
Couple a niche fanbase with the sequel's gigantic $220 million budget, an unpopular lead actor in Jared Leto, marketing that failed to sell the film as a must-see event, and wildly mixed reviews, and the interest just wasn't there.
Tron: Ares ended its run with a terrible $142.2 million, making it one of the biggest flops of the 2020s so far, leading to reports that Disney had decided to put the franchise on ice for the foreseeable future.
That is to say, we're incredibly unlikely to see another mega-budget Tron movie any time soon, if ever.
If it does return theatrically, it'll probably be with a more modest budget in the $80-100 million range and a budget-conscious filmmaker like Gareth Edwards leading the charge.
