10 Upcoming Movies That Are Already Doomed

Drama Magazine Dreams premiered to strong reviews at the 2023 Sundance Film Festival, with critics roundly praising lead Jonathan Majors for his intense performance as a troubled bodybuilder, some even believing him worthy of a Best Actor Oscar nomination.

But two months after the premiere, Majors' career was derailed when assault charges were levelled against him, resulting in distributor Searchlight Pictures - who had previously planned a late-year awards-friendly release for the film - taking it off their calendar altogether.

After Majors was convicted of assault and harassment last December, Searchlight decided to return the distribution rights to the filmmakers, with Briarcliff Entertainment recently acquiring the film to release in the first quarter of 2025.

Despite the quality of the film itself, Majors' radioactive reputation in Hollywood ensures the film will surely fail to secure a major theatrical release, likely being quietly dumped in a small number of screens before slinking onto VOD and evaporating into the content void.

It's tough not to feel for writer-director Elijah Bynum and everyone else who worked on the film, but given the very public nature of Majors' accusations and trial - not to mention the movie's delicately adjacent subject matter - there's simply no path for it to find an audience.
