10 Upcoming Movies That Are Already Doomed
2. F1
Upcoming sports drama F1 certainly has a lot working in its favour - Brad Pitt stars as a veteran racer who comes out of retirement to train a younger rookie (Damson Idris), with a supporting cast including Javier Bardem and Kerry Condon, while Joseph Kosinski (Tron: Legacy, Top Gun: Maverick) directs.
But there's one big hurdle here, and that's the budget. It was reported earlier this year that F1 was rocking a $300 million price tag, and while both Kosinski and producer Jerry Bruckheimer denied this claim, it's clear from the first trailer that this thing cost an eye-watering amount of money regardless.
A $200 million budget seems absolutely reasonable after factoring in tax rebates and sponsorships, which would leave F1 needing to make around $500 million to turn a profit.
Given that racing films generally have modest returns at the box office, with even the successful Ford v Ferrari topping out at $225 million worldwide, there's good reason that they're not given blockbuster-level budgets, because the potential to recoup the expense just isn't there.
And so, regardless of how it turns out quality-wise, F1's monstrous costs - close to the combined price tags of Gran Turismo, Ferrari, Ford v Ferrari, and Rush - leave it looking like a bloated, overpriced money pit.
