20 Incredible Recent Movies That FLOPPED

6. The Christophers

Steven Soderbergh's The Christophers is one of the year's most delightful films - an absolute hoot of a blackly comedic caper which teases out some of the finest work of Ian McKellen and Michaela Coel's respective careers, while again confirming Soderbergh to be one of our most versatile living filmmakers.

Yet even with top-tier talent in front of and behind the camera and great reviews, Soderbergh's latest ended its run at just $4.8 million. While the film's undisclosed budget clearly wasn't huge, it surely wasn't enough for this number to be a fair outcome.

This shouldn't be terribly surprising to the director's fans, though, given that Soderbergh's recent career is littered with flops and underperformances - a symptom of the narrowing theatrical market for the sorts of modest, adult-skewing mid-budget movies he's produced as of late.

But at least Soderbergh's industry stock remains high enough that, despite the limited commercial prospects of his current work, he still seems able to get movies made.
