4. You, Me & Tuscany
Though some saw the success of 2023's Anyone But You as proof that the theatrical rom-com was making a glorious comeback, You, Me & Tuscany's commercial failure posted quite the decisive counter-argument.
Granted, Regé-Jean Page and Halle Bailey aren't nearly as high-profile talents as Glen Powell and Sydney Sweeney, but even accepting that, the trailers categorically failed to position the film as in any way worthy of a trip to the cinema.
It's often a lazy criticism to say that a film "looks like a Netflix Original," but in this case the label was absolutely correct. The flat, sterile visual style made it an easy theatrical skip, to say nothing of a setup that seemed snooze-inducingly conventional, even for the genre.
Ultimately reviews for the film were fine, but it was hardly a shock when the $18 million rom-com grossed just $22 million worldwide. It'll fare better at home, for sure, but the jury's still very much out on the genre's long-term big-screen prospects.
