17. Austin Abrams Is Playing Leon Kennedy - Resident Evil
The Rumour:
Many swore blind that Austin Abrams' protagonist in Zach Cregger's new Resident Evil reboot would actually turn out to be the series' fan favourite protagonist, Leon S. Kennedy.
Given Abrams' aptitude for playing wet-around-the-ears, in-over-their-head characters - best evidenced by his turn in Cregger's previous film Weapons - he seemed like a fine fit on paper to play Leon as a rookie cop fighting to survive the undead apocalypse in Raccoon City.
And even when Cregger assured fans that Abrams wouldn't be playing Leon, they still didn't believe him.
The Truth:
Abrams ultimately plays a medical courier by the name of Bryan, an entirely original character who has no relation whatsoever to Leon.
And beyond that, there's not a single character from the video games in the movie, which while disappointing to some fans hoping for a more source-faithful adaptation, was probably the smart way to go all things considered.
