18. The Walkie Talkie Steven Spielberg Nod - Watchmen
Not all ridiculously clever Easter Eggs actually made it into the film movie, but they still deserve mention when they're as smart as this one from the Watchmen teasers.
The trailer for Snyder's excellent adaptation includes a nod to Steven Spielberg's decision to edit E.T. to remove all of the guns from cops' hands and replace them with walkie talkies. For a brief second the same thing happens in the Watchmen trailer very briefly as a nod to the great man during the attempted assassination on Ozymandias.
Here's how Snyder talked it up:
It was a total Spielberg reference. Because I was like, Well, it worked for Spielberg, so we should do that. Just put a walkie-talkie in his hand! The editors were like, But then you cut to a real gun! but Im like, No one will ever see that; theyll think he had a gun in the other shot, so its fine.
