23 Worst Movie Endings Since 2000

3. Marie Was The Killer The Whole Time - High Tension

Alexandre Aja's searing thriller is for the majority of its runtime a terrifying and blisteringly intense horror flick, as young women Marie and Alex are ceaselessly hunted by a demented killer. As it transpires at the end of the movie, Marie has actually been the killer the entire time, helplessly in love with Alex and absolutely insane. The movie ends with the two sharing a kiss, at which point Alex stabs Marie in the chest with a crowbar, though Marie survives the attack, ending up institutionalised though clearly still in love with Alex. Why It Sucks: The twist that Marie has been killing everyone the whole time doesn't make any sense and throws a lot of the movie's internal logic into complete disarray. It's absolutely needless and the movie would have been much better off if it just followed along the conventional slasher arc it carved out for itself quite stylishly. Instead, it's known as another almost-cool movie that completely derailed itself at the last minute.
