22. Firestarter

Release: TBC Status: Earliest Days Of Pre-Production Two years after she first appeared in ET, Drew Barrymore went full creepy with the original Firestarter adaptation, which was passable at best. 30 years later, Mark L Smith is apparently scripting a new, darker version, which will concentrate on the same father/daughter supernatural team on the run from shady government agency The Shop. Prospects: That original is largely only memorable for Barrymore's performance (which is usually ladled with nostalgic flavourings), but the story was always a solid prospect for adaptation, and it's actually surprising that it's taken this long to get it remade. Universal apparently want a franchise, and the darker agenda hopefully won't make way for a psuedo-YA fiction adaptation chasing the Hunger Games/Divergent dollars. Because, frankly, that would suck.
