18. The Things They Left Behind (TV)
Release: 2016? Status: Pilot Ordered Something of a raw nerve story of post-trauma, King's 2006 short story The Things They Left Behind, set in the aftermath of 9/11 is a haunting supernatural tale of loss and guilt. It follows a survivor who finds that the belongings of his deceased co-workers turn up at his house, and embarks on a quest of sorts to return them to the families of the dead, closing their unfinished business for them. It's a tough sell, but there's every chance the premise will change enough to get over the potential controversy. Prospects: CBS hit a winner with Under The Dome, so they're probably the right folk to bring this to the screen. And while the subject matter is inevitably going to attract some negative attention, the story is unique enough to captivate. Adding his experience to the mix is also Greg Berlanti, who has produced The CWs Arrow and The Flash, and will lead Supergirl.
