24 Predictions For This Oscar Season's Rotten Tomatoes Scores
9. Joy (86%)
Predicted Critical Consensus: "Writer-director David O. Russell once again gets the best out of Jennifer Lawrence, Bradley Cooper and Robert De Niro, combined with an uproariously funny script and typically meticulous direction." Given that Russell's last three movies (The Fighter, Silver Linings Playbook and American Hustle) have all scored over 90% with critics, Joy shouldn't be too much different, though perhaps expect the law of diminished returns to be in slight effect here, as some may begin to tire of Russell's collaborations with the same actors and feel that all involved need to branch out a little. Still, the trailer suggests another typically entertaining yarn from the controversial filmmaker, and both critics and the Academy are clearly huge fans of his. Even so, regardless of whether it wins Lawrence another Oscar or not, expect Joy to be an effortless hit this holiday season, and proof that with the right creative minds, you can even make a successful biopic about the woman who invented the Miracle Mop.
