The Franchise: Living Dead

The Role: Mary in George A. Romero's fourth follow-up to Night of the Living Dead, 2007's Diary of the Dead.

Why You Forgot: It's hard to deny that Romero's first three films - Night, Dawn and Day - are easily the most efficient and popular entries in the series, but Diary allowed Romero to experiment with the series by taking on a found footage approach. It has its fans, but few will likely consider it a genre classic in the same way those other films will be forever thanks to surfacing early in an era where zombies' popularity has been higher than ever.

As for Maslany, she'd been turning up in a handful of television shows and films for a number of years before appearing in Romero's film, but has really hit it big recently thanks to her ongoing, critically praised turn on Orphan Black.
