Star Wars is known for being deliberately coy with their antagonists. Darth Vader is only in A New Hope for 12 minutes of screen-time, yet his presence looms over greater than Spielbergs Jaws. Despite his huge popularity, Boba Fett is only referred to as the bounty hunter and never by name in the Empire Strikes Back. He only has 4 lines total. Even Darth Maul only had 3 lines in The Phantom Menace. The Ewoks were also never mentioned by name or in the credits of The Return of the Jedi.
12. Lucas Tried To Get Frank Oz Nominated For Yoda
The debate began here. Lucas was so impressed and satisfied with Frank Ozs performance as Yoda that he spent thousands of dollars on an advertising campaign to score him an Oscar nomination. Ostensibly, it was unsuccessful, primarily because it was felt that a puppeteer wasnt an actor. Maybe one day the Academy will recognize great performances despite the modern mo-cap suits. It could be worse for Oz, as Yoda was originally going to be played by a monkey.
