Film: Star Wars When: After the bickering droids first land on the desert planet Forced out of the typical sci-fi trappings of the Tantive IV, Artoo and Threepio are stranded and alone, tiny figures in the expansive desert backdrop. The use of drained natural lighting in particular removes any hope of an oasis-style feeling. It's rather suitable that this is our first on-the-ground look at Tatooine - even before 3PO himself states it, we know that this is a desolate place.
