Creatures of the night who feast on their victim’s blood, vampires are arguably one of the most famous monsters that have captured our collective imaginations.

While the monster was popularised in Bram Stoker’s famous 1897 novel, their existence dates back a lot further where stories of undead bloodsuckers can be found all around the world. From tales of a malevolent hopping peasant in 18th century China, small beings who, if not properly cremated, would eat your intestines in India if swallowed, and in plague-ridden medieval Europe where bloody mouth lesions and skin blisters (porphyria) were seen as markers of vampirism, vampires have scared us for a long time.

Though the superstitious belief of the undead spreading diseases isn’t as predominant today as it was back then, vampires have nevertheless found a new home in our pop-culture. Don’t be misled by this film being included on this list, Vampire’s Kiss is, by most measures, an awful film. What it is, though, is an immensely entertaining so-bad-it’s-good schlock-fest that should be seen purely for what’s arguably Nicholas Cage’s most outlandish performance to date.

The film’s plot revolves around unhinged and narcissistic literary agent Peter Loew (Cage) as he gradually falls deeper into his insanity when he believes he was bitten by a vampire. While this premise could have made for an intriguing character study and commentary on capitalist greed in a similar vein as American Psycho, the result is something far sillier – and we couldn’t be happier.

If you’re looking for a vampire film with a lot of bite, this film isn’t for you. But if you want to see Nicholas Cage recite the alphabet and scream about being a vampire in the most ridiculous way possible (and who doesn’t?), then this is the film you've been looking for.
