23. Land Of The Dead
Many out there seem to sleep on George A. Romero’s later work and claim that he didn’t direct anything of note past Day of the Dead, but that just isn’t the case as with Land of the Dead.
Romero returned after almost 20 years away from the living dead, with this sequel based in his post-apocalyptic world. Like his past work, this wasn’t directly linked back, but was more a continuation of the world, the survivors and the zombies who wander it.
The poor live in slums and are being controlled by the Dennis Hopper as Kaufman with just a few wealthy higher-ups that inhabit a luxury high rise.
Somehow the last pockets of humanity have remained the same, but the dead are beginning to learn as one zombie in particular known as Big Daddy gathers an army to march upon the high rise known as Fiddler's Green.
