24. White Zombie

Largely recognised as the very first zombie movie to be put to screen, White Zombie is pretty much a blueprint for most zombie films of that early era, until Romero entered the picture with Night of the Living dead.

This pre World War 2 picture even did what so many did after it, and had a central underlying theme which was more than just, people returning from the dead. The zombies in this are not like the ones we have seen for the past few decades, instead of technically being dead, they are simply lifeless and mindless slaves devoid of a soul.

A commentary on slavery, White Zombie shows humans with no concern for their wellbeing and especially for the time, shocked audiences to no end. This is a must-watch for any diehard fan of the genre.
