Sometimes, all you need to make a horror film memorable is a single, extremely graphic depiction of torture.

Detailing the lives of Lucie and Anna: two children that befriend each other in an orphanage, Martyrs explores the concept of achieving an afterlife through the brutal torture of kidnapped civilians, as Lucie was.

Aside from the extreme scenes of emaciation (as pictured above), a scene that depicts the live flaying of Anna towards the end of the film is truly disturbing.
