25 Films That Intentionally Spoil Other Films

7. Deadpool (2016)

Deadpool 2

Deadpool changed the superhero genre for good back in 2016, showing that it can be for adults, that swearing is allowed, and that gore and proper violence have their place in the broader Marvel canon. He also did for the genre what Scream did for the slasher, by breaking down the fourth wall and plunging us into a hilariously self-aware metafiction that few films since have been able to compete with.

Wade Wilson (Ryan Reynolds) becomes Deadpool, the merc with a mouth this time round (looking at you, X-Men: Origins), whose cancer diagnosis and attempt to fix it with extreme physical treatment designed to stimulate one’s X-gene go somewhat awry and turn him into an invincible testicle. He dons the red suit and katanas and goes to war with Ajax (Ed Skrein), the sadistic mutant he views as having ruined his life.

It goes with the territory that there would be pop culture references aplenty, and of course a few films are either explicitly or tacitly spoiled in the process. The most egregious example is the scene in which Wade has been captured by and handcuffed to the X-Men's Colossus (Stefan Kapičić). Wade turns to the camera, says, "You ever see 127 Hours?" and then saws his own hand off so he can escape.

But, hey, at least he says, "Spoiler alert" before he does it.
