25 Films That Intentionally Spoil Other Films

18. Daddy's Home (2015)

Swordfish John Travolta
Paramount Pictures

Sean Anders’ buddy comedy Daddy’s Home pairs Will Ferrell with Marky-Mark Wahlberg as wet blanket stepdad Brad Whitaker (Ferrell) and father of his wife's children Dusty Mayron (Wahlberg), who compete for the kids’ affections in their own unique ways.

While Brad has been doing the important foundational work, Dusty gets to sweep in and be the cool dad who can shrug off rules and bedtimes, and do everything within his power to push Brad out of the family. This includes inviting fired handyman Griff (Hannibal Buress) to move in with them, who settles all too easily into the strange new kind of family life Dusty is trying to create.

After so long away from the kids, Dusty is keen to establish a new relationship, and this includes engaging with every 2015 young girl’s favourite pastime: watching Frozen. But we enter the scene with Griff saying, "Wait, Prince Hans is actually the bad guy?", spoiling the animated feature without warning.

Presumably, the writers thought it would make for a funny scene, getting the grown-ups more engrossed in the film than the kids are, especially Wahlberg’s macho man Dusty. And while it may spoil it, Frozen for the grown-up audience Daddy’s Home is aimed at, chances are that few of them were going to watch the Disney princess movie anyway.
