25 Films That Intentionally Spoil Other Films
19. Meet The Parents (2000)
2026 doesn’t really seem like the time for another Fockers franchise film, not least because the series’ humour is very noughties, and the last entry was a decade and a half ago, yet that is precisely what we will be getting in the upcoming Focker-in-Law. But, no matter what unsavoury extremes the series has gone to, we still have the first movie, reliable in-law comedy Meet the Parents, to fall back on.
That film finds Ben Stiller’s Greg Focker struggling to integrate into his fiancée Pam Byrnes’ (Teri Polo) family, constantly at loggerheads with her ex-CIA father Jack (Robert De Niro) and feeling sidelined by her close relationship with her successful ex Kevin (Owen Wilson). And it is this strange continuationship that gives rise to the movie haphazardly spoiling Top Gun, of all things.
Pam and Kevin fondly call each Iceman and Maverick, per Val Kilmer and Tom Cruise’s characters in the aviation actioner. But, when Greg tries to elbow his way in and asks if Kevin can be Goose instead, Pam says, "No, because Goose dies in the end."
Tough luck if you somehow haven’t seen the 1980s classic yet.
