#9 - $1.123 billion The highest grossing instalment of the Transformers franchise and also the worst, the bafflingly titled Dark Of The Moon did little to restore faith in the series after the embarrassing sequel that preceded it. It was, however, helped by the then still popular 3D format, and Michael Bay in fairness made great use of that with impressive action scenes. That saved Dark Of The Moon from being a complete and utter disaster, but it had more than enough other issues to stop it from finding a place any higher on this list. The fact that it kicked off with a gratuitous ass shot, for example or, you know, the terrible acting, dialogue, and story! The fifth fastest film to hit $1 billion, Dark Of The Moon served as proof that moviegoers won't let the opinions of critics stop them from seeing big tentpoles like this. However, it was the success of the movie in China that really mattered, as a huge chunk of its overall haul hailed from there; that's why Age Of Extinction ended up being a Chinese co-production. Despite this being the most successful instalment of the Transformers franchise, the cast was dumped for the follow-up, proving perhaps that it's ultimately the robots that people are really paying money to see.
