#19 - $1.025 billion Johnny Depp was at the height of his career when Alice In Wonderland came out, and while a sequel is set to be released next year, it's hard to imagine that finding anywhere near the same level of success after the actor has starred in a string of critical and commercial flops. Hopefully the Alice In Wonderland follow-up will pay greater respect to the the book's overall narrative, as that was sacrificed in here to focus on the unique and unusual visuals. Those were in some ways its saving grace though - the movie is nice to look at if nothing else. Tim Burton's trippy take on this classic tale was a bigger hit that anyone could have predicted when it was released in 2010, though it did take 85 days for it to reach $1 billion. At the time, it was only the sixth movie ever to achieve that feat. It was also only the second time a Disney movie had managed to do so, partially thanks to the boost 3D effects - which had recently discovered a newfound popularity after the release of Avatar the year before - added. Critics were split, but like many Johnny Depp movies released during his boom period, that didn't seem to stop Alice In Wonderland from becoming his biggest hit to date.
