25 Horror Films You Must Watch Before Halloween

25. Friday The 13th

1980's Friday the 13th may not be as slick or smart as its main rivals in Halloween and A Nightmare On Elm Street, but its status as a quintessential horror classic is undeniable. A gang of counselors find themselves being picked off one by one by a shady killer, but of course, as some forget, Jason Voorhees isn't the antagonist of the first movie (spoiler: it's his poor old mother, Pamela Voorhees ). Best Moment: A young Kevin Bacon gets an arrow through the throat. The effects haven't aged particularly well, but it's an iconic moment in horror lore and easily the franchise's most memorable kill (though the liquid nitrogen face-slam in Jason X comes pretty close). Sequels: A whopping 9 sequels followed of mostly low quality, with the odd exception (the sixth film, Jason lives, is hilarious, and Jason X has its goofy sci-fi charms). Then Jason fought Freddy in 2003's solid Freddy vs. Jason, and in 2009, the series was needlessly rebooted. Rumours suggest the series might be getting a found footage makeover in the future.
