25 Horror Films You Must Watch Before Halloween

24. V/H/S

Anthology movies by their sheer nature are pretty hit and miss (unless they're directed by Robert Altman or Paul Thomas Anderson), and this is certainly true in the horror genre. Still, 2012's V/H/S is a diverting modern horror classic, one which suffers from a crappy wraparound story, but the tales themselves are on the whole a lot of fun. Best Moment: 10/31/98, the final story, a marvelously-executed take on the tired haunted house formula that ends the film on a high note. Sequels: V/H/S 2 was released a year later to mixed notices, and a third film, V/H/S Viral, has been screening at festivals over the last few weeks, also to wildly mixed reviews. Even though they're inherently inconsistent, these movies are still fascinating experiments, and hopefully Viral will do well enough to bankroll a fourth effort.
