It's astonishing to think that fifty years have passed since Robert Vaughn and David McCallum paired up to work for UNCLE, and even that it's taken this long for anyone to turn it into a film.

It's been a long road to say the least, with several different versions in the offing before Henry Cavill and Armie Hammer took on the iconic roles for Guy Ritchie.

Selling Point

The original TV show was brilliantly cool, which Ritchie should know (fingers crossed) and the head duo do have a certain spark of vitality to them. Plus they will be ably assisted by Hugh Grant and Jared Harris.

Reservations

The cast is a little parred down from what it probably could have been: at one stage both George Clooney and Tom Cruise were attached as Napoleon Solo, and Leo DiCaprio was apparently under consideration. That it's ended up being Cavill and Hammer feels like a bit of a compromise.

And so does Guy Ritchie when you consider that Quentin Tarantino was once attached.
