10. Pirates Of The Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales

Billed As: Captain Jack Sparrow chews up all the scenery again on the hunt for another magical McGuffin as another supernatural enemy tries to do him in.

Hype: The Pirates franchise has never dipped below solid entertainment (even when it flirted with impenetrable complexity at the end of the first trilogy), but you get the feeling it would be critic proof even if it did. That - and its huge financial performances - can be pegged down to Johnny Depp's Sparrow, who is - like it or not - one of the defining cinematic heroes of our time.

This time out we get to see him wrestling with an undead pirate (Javier Bardem), looking to wipe out pirates with a personal vendetta against him. Which sounds like it could describe several POTC films already. But at least we know what to expect, and the early critical reviews have all been very good, somewhat surprisingly.
