25 Most Hotly Anticipated Movies Of Summer 2018 - Ranked
16. The Happytime Murders
Release Date: August 17
Billed As: Jim Henson's son Brian helms this R-rated neo-noir puppet comedy, taking place in a world where humans and puppets co-exist.
Puppet P.I. Phil Phillips (Bill Barretta) is investigating the murder of his brother at the hands of a serial killer, who is next targeting the cast of a TV show, The Happytime Gang. Together with former partner Detective Edwards (Melissa McCarthy), he must get to the truth.
Hype: The comparisons to Who Framed Roger Rabbit speak for themselves, in what could be one of the summer's big sleeper hits if it strikes the right tone.
With a human cast also including Elizabeth Banks, Maya Rudolph and Joel McHale, there's certainly talent to spare. The little we've actually seen of the movie looks like it nails the film noir aesthetic perfectly, and if nothing else, it should be among the summer's most unique movies.
