25 Most Hotly Anticipated Movies Of Winter 2016 - Ranked
11. Nocturnal Animals
Release Date: November 18th
Billed As: Jake Gyllenhaal commits revenge fantasy through fiction - or at least his ex wife thinks that's what he's doing.
Hype: Five years after making his directorial debut with the well-received A Single Man, former designer Tom Ford returns to the silver screen with this intriguing tale based on a novel that initially failed in the US. Trust us Brits, we saw its quality when it came to our shores, prompting a re-release Stateside that has led to this movie.
The novel offers a tantalising idea: of a woman (Amy Adam) who believes her ex (Gyllenhaal) is sending her a veiled threat in his latest novel - a brutal tale of murder, rape and revenge - after she left him for another man and basically called him a bad writer. There's then a play-within-a-play element as the novel plays out, as dramatised by Adams, with Gyllenhaal as the lead.
So far, the reviews have ranged from good to great, which is a nice sign, with several notable 5 star reviews. It's certainly one of the smarter concepts left to unfurl this year.
