25 Movies That Would Have Been BETTER As TV Shows
23. Suicide Squad
When James Gunn made The Suicide Squad in 2021, he improved on David Ayers' effort from 2016, but with Creature Commandos in 2024, he proved that the concept works much better as a TV show.
Creature Commandos featured a team of criminals in exactly the same way as Suicide Squad, only none of them were human. As with the film in 2016, the majority of the characters were unknown to the mainstream, and while Ayers' film was ridiculed for how each of the team was introduced within the first five minutes with their own music, James Gunn showed that an episodic format is the best way to do this.
Each of the seven episodes were used to portray one of the characters' backstories, while Nina (Zoƫ Chao) had her flashbacks to the past occur in tandem with her death in the present. This immediacy heightened the emotion involved, and could have been used to great effect with El Diablo (Jay Hernandez) in Suicide Squad.
With the character development sorted over the course of the series, and with audiences growing more and more invested in the team as they learn more about them, the project is bound to be received better. You could even use this method to properly develop the Joker and Harley Quinn's toxic romance and make it something worth watching, though a recast of Jared Leto would still be advisable.
