It was in 2005 that Andy Serkis brought King Kong to life in Peter Jackson's epic tale, then, in appearing as Caesar in the Planet of the Apes trilogy, the technology to turn an actor into a monkey was damn near perfected.

Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes, however, was released seven years after War for the Planet of the Apes, and somehow managed to improve on said near-perfection. The apes had become more evolved over the time jump between films, and thus required a lot more work to bring them convincingly to life on the screen.

One of the most impressive feats the fourth in the franchise achieved was how the apes spoke. 300 years had passed since the previous movie, which had led to the rulers of the planet speaking more with their mouths than with their hands as they had done previously.

The very first scene after the time jump showed three of the apes conversing just like three humans would have, and it is astonishing just how good it looked. This continued throughout the movie, thanks to a huge jump in motion capture technology since the previous outing.
