25 Shocking CGI Movie Moments That Left You Speechless
7. Richard Parker - The Life Of Pi
The Jungle Book isn't the only movie on this list to bring a realistic tiger to life. Four years before Jon Favreau's Disney remake came The Life of Pi, which portrayed the titular character's story based on a small boat, stranded in the ocean with a tiger by the name of Richard Parker.
While The Jungle Book brought an entire jungle's worth of animals to life with CGI, The Life of Pi worked with only a handful, and none so prominent as the tiger. The rest of the animals that shared Pi's boat didn't last too long.
For some of the shots, Ang Lee utilised a real tiger, of course with the presence of animal control and all the safety protocols needed. However, this was only for a small minority of the film, while the rest of the time Richard Parker was created by CGI with reference shots to the real animal.
It is a true testament to the final product that without knowing beforehand, it would be near impossible to tell which shots featured the real tiger and which didn't.
