25 Things Wrong With Marvel Phase Two So Far

5. How Could Loki Overcome The Allfather?

Odin is supposed to be the most powerful man in Asgard by a country mile. In the comic books, the man can destroy galaxies with his power and is able to go toe-to-toe with Galactus and defeat the likes of Thanos in combat. Indeed, even in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, he has proven himself powerful enough to intervene in a battle between Thor, his allies and the Frost Giants of Jotunheim and bring the fight to an end single-handedly. Meanwhile, Loki has been relatively weak in comparison. He is comfortably beaten in physical combat by Thor - who is obviously supposed to be inferior to Odin - and his magic has been categorically poor compared to his comic book counterpart. Essentially, the difference in power between Odin and Loki should be gargantuan. So how in the hell did Loki completely overthrow Odin to become the wrongful king of Asgard at the end of Thor: The Dark World? It happened off camera, so we don't know, but it's baffling at best and completely wrong in terms of how Odin should be presented.
