25 Things Wrong With Marvel Phase Two So Far
4. Tony Stark's Arc-Reactor Removal

After four previous movie appearances from Tony Stark in which the mini arc reactor in his chest had been described as essential to keep him alive, it was removed in a matter of seconds via a brief operating table scene and a hasty voice-over at the end of Iron Man 3.
The arc reactor was part of who Tony Stark was. Removing it essentially removed a massive part of his identity - particularly his identity as his heroic alter-ego Iron Man.
It was actually suggested previously that removing it would outright kill him, so it is absolutely baffling how a group of what looked like ordinary surgeons - in a world in which Tony Stark, a super-genius who can create a new element, couldn't figure out how to remove it - seemed to carry out the operation to remove it and the shrapnel that it was stopping from reaching Tonys heart as if it were any other standard surgical procedure. The removal was completely inexplicable and should definitely have been more of a traumatic and painstaking experience for Tony and the decision to remove it should have been a long and hard-thought one.
Instead, it was undone in the blink of an eye, which was actually a little bit disrespectful to the legacy created by the movies that preceded Iron Man 3.
