Whilst 20th Century Fox endlessly mulled over Alien's budget, Ridley Scott got incredibly bored of waiting so he decided to storyboard the entire film in the meantime. The storyboards were influenced by the work of famed French comic book artist Jean Giraud, also known as Moebius, and were absolutely stunning.

Upon sending them to Fox, the studio was so impressed that they doubled their initial budget of 4.2 million to 8.4 million dollars, as Scott's vision was so clear and well-realised. Giraud subsequently contributed work to the film, designing in particular the Nostromo crew attire and spacesuits, which were recreated almost exactly as-is.
