25 Things You Didn't Know About Ghostbusters

11. Ghost Janitors In New York

You'd expect that for a film the size of Ghostbusters a whole lot of work would need to go into convincing the studio to give it the greenlight, taking into account the Marshmallow Man sized budget required to shoot Aykroyd's script.

In a fortunate turn of events, it would be Ivan Reitman's previous relationship with Columbia, and some quick thinking that would win the project its eventual greenlight. After joining the film before there was even a completed script, Reitman was egged on to meet with CEO Frank Price to try to get Ghostbusters in the upcoming shooting list.

Although initially sceptical, Price was quickly won round with Reitman's simple, but effective, five-word pitch: Ghost janitors in New York. When he pushed Reitman for an idea of budget, the young director threw out $30 million off the top of his head, unsure if this would even come close to covering Ramis and Aykroyd's vision.
